Captain Kidd
Captain Kidd: The American Patriot-Privateer Who Defied the English Empire
Coming in 2024!
Captain Kidd: The American Patriot-Privateer Who Defied the English Empire is the true story of my ninth-great-grandfather Captain William Kidd (1654-1701). This fast-paced narrative holds the distinction of being the first biography of a famous “pirate” ever written by a direct descendant. The book peels away the layers of mythology and Crown propaganda to uncover and illuminate the real Captain Kidd, by scrupulously recreating his adventurous, romantic, and perilous world during the Glorious Revolution and Golden Age of Piracy in the years 1688-1701. In marshaling rigorous DNA analysis and other lines of evidence in the Kidd narrative, this scholarly non-fiction biographical work serves as a corrective to the mythology of Captain Kidd that permeates so much of the academic and mainstream research of my progenitor and the Golden Age in general. The Kidd family saga is told through the eyes of Captain Kidd, the English Crown that sought to make an example of him, and his wife Sarah, my ninth-great-grandmother and a larger-than-life historical figure in her own right. In true bottom-up fashion, Captain Kidd puts savvy Sarah on equal footing with her more historically famous husband and delves deeply into their relationship in one of the greatest New York love stories of all time.

SOLDIERS OF FREEDOM is the true story of the 1944-1945 War in Western Europe and the final Allied struggle to conquer Nazi Germany. The story is told through the eyes of William McBurney, a tank gunner in the 761st Tank Battalion, the first African-American tank unit in U.S. history; dynamic General George S. Patton, Jr., commander of the U.S. Third Army; and Angela Lange, a sixteen-year-old German resistance fighter with the anti-Nazi Edelweiss Pirates in Cologne. While Patton’s forces liberate France and Belgium, fight in the grueling Battle of the Bulge, and cross the Rhine to conquer Germany, U.S. tanker William McBurney and his Black Panthers must fight two wars at once: one against the German army, the other against the racism of their fellow white soldiers. Meanwhile, as the Allies drive into Germany, Edelweiss Pirate Angela Lange must survive the Allied bombing of Cologne while she engages in fierce resistance against the Hitler Youth and Nazis and is hunted down by the Gestapo. The real-life heroism of the 761st “Black Panthers” Tank Battalion and legendary General Patton to liberate Europe—and the Edelweiss Pirates German Youth Resistance to combat Nazism—comes to life in this historically accurate tale of the final epic struggle in WWII Europe.
